Global Warming
Why do we care? The ice age wouldn't be over if there was no global warming. Asia will still be colder than the poles and people will still be living in a primitive freezer.
Isn't global warming good? It makes the world a better place to live in, and man can show off their six-packs alongside with the bikini babes at the beaches.
Are we causing our planet to heat up? The answer can be yes or no or even both. But whatever it is, it just doesn't matter. Who really cares? In the long run, the sun will grow so big that its diameter will engulf the earth's orbit. Human will be long gone if inter-planetary travel had not been perfected. Earth will be hotter than the oven.
Can we stop it? No. Definitely not. Can we slow it down? Yes we can but that will be a very painful solution. No one in this world would agree to it all at once. We need everybody's effort to succeed - but that will mean that we return to stone age, stop all our commercial activities - impossible. After gold, the next thing that human being is obsessed with is growth. We cannot stop growing. If we do, the one next to me will get fatter than I am and I will have to obey him. The thought is simply unbearable and so to grow, I better increase my rate of tree cutting. Afterall, that fat man had gotten so fat by cutting his trees. Why shouldn't I cut mine after he had finished cutting his? It's my turn now.
And so what if we managed slowed down global warming? Earth will live slightly longer. Those who had earlier cut down their trees will live better than those who didn't have the chance. And for just this reason, slow down will not be successful. The only way to be successful is to recognize that accelerated global warming is the net result of capitalism - and for any control to be successful is to abolish a seemingly proven model for the modern society.
